Privacy
Once Upon Upholstery is a small upholstery business in Miami Beach, Florida, run by Molly Forenza. This page explains what we learn about you through this website, what we do with it, and who else touches it. The short version: we use your details to work on your piece and run the business, and we don't sell them to anyone.
What we collect
What you send us. When you ask about a project we may receive your name, email, phone number, address or ZIP code, the piece you want recovered, measurements, fabric ideas, a budget range, notes, and photos of the furniture. You choose what to share.
The Start Your Project estimator. The estimator asks about your piece, shows a planning range, and lets you request an in-home consultation. While you fill it in, your answers and photos are saved only in your own browser's storage on your device. When you press "Request your in-home consultation," we receive your name, email, mobile number, preferred contact method, the address, city, and ZIP you typed, the piece and what you want done, measurements, fabric choices, the planning range, your preferred days and time, your notes, and how many photos you took. Your photos are not uploaded; they stay on your device until you text or email them to us, unless you choose to use "Try it on your piece" (see below).
The request is stored in Once Upon Upholstery's private business app, which only Molly and the people who help her run the business can open. To stop automated spam, the form uses a hidden trap field, a timing check, and a limit on how many requests can come from one internet address in a day; for that limit we keep a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address with the request, not the address itself. We may also use Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-friendly check that doesn't ask you to solve puzzles. Sending the request does not email anyone and does not create anything in QuickBooks; Molly reviews it and gets back to you the way you asked.
Other ways to reach us. The email version of the form opens a draft in your own email app, addressed to [email protected], and nothing is sent until you send that email. You can also call, text, or message us on Instagram.
What servers see automatically. Like any website, the companies that deliver these pages receive technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and the page you asked for. We don't run advertising trackers, social pixels, or an analytics service on this site.
How we use it
- To reply to you, estimate your project, schedule a visit, pick up and return your piece, and do the work.
- To send estimates and invoices, take payment, and keep the business records a small business has to keep, including for taxes.
- To keep the website running and secure.
We won't add you to a mailing list without asking, and we won't post photos of your home or your piece without your permission.
QuickBooks
We keep our books in QuickBooks Online, made by Intuit. This website can connect to Once Upon Upholstery's own QuickBooks company so project details can become customers, estimates, invoices, and payments there. Only the business owner connects it, one time. Visitors never sign in to QuickBooks here, and we never access anyone else's QuickBooks account.
If you become a customer, your name, contact details, project description, and amounts will be stored in our QuickBooks company. If you pay an invoice online through QuickBooks, Intuit handles the card or bank details; they are not entered on or stored by this website. Intuit's handling of that information is covered by the Intuit Global Privacy Statement.
The keys that let the website talk to QuickBooks are kept on the server, not in your browser, and can be revoked at any time from QuickBooks.
Who else handles your information
We use a few outside services to run the business. Each gets only what it needs to do its job:
- Cloudflare hosts this website, stores estimator requests in our private business app, provides the spam checks (including Turnstile, if it is switched on), and stores the QuickBooks connection keys.
- Intuit (QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Payments) for estimates, invoices, payments, and bookkeeping.
- xAI, only if you use the website chat (to write its replies) or "Try it on your piece" in the estimator (to create the preview image from your photo).
- Google for our email (Gmail) and for the fonts on this site, which your browser loads from Google's servers.
- Instagram (Meta), if you message us there or follow a link to our profile.
We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for other companies' advertising. We may share it if the law requires it, or with an accountant or advisor who helps us run the business.
Try it on your piece (AI fabric preview)
On the estimator's fabric step you can choose to upload a photo of your piece and see it in one of our House Collection colorways. It's optional.
What happens to your photo. When you press "Make my preview," your photo (made smaller in your browser first) and the colorway's swatch are sent to xAI, the company behind Grok, to create the preview image, which comes straight back to your screen. An uploaded photo is sent to xAI to create the preview and is not stored by us: neither the photo nor the preview is saved on our servers or added to your request. xAI handles it under its own terms and privacy policy.
Limits. To stop abuse and keep our costs in check, we count previews per internet address for up to a day using a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address, not the address itself, and we cap how many previews the site makes each day.
The preview is made by AI and is not an exact match of the fabric or your piece. Molly brings real samples to the visit.
The website chat
Some pages may show a chat bubble ("Questions? Ask us"). It's an automated assistant, not a person, and it's only there when we switch it on.
What it receives. What you type and the page you're on. If you ask for a quote, it asks for your name, email or phone, ZIP code, and a short description of your piece, and passes those to Molly's private admin app with a copy of the conversation so she can follow up. Please don't type payment details or anything sensitive.
Who processes it. Your messages are sent to xAI, the company behind Grok, to write the replies. Cloudflare runs the chat and its spam checks (including Turnstile, if it is switched on). To stop abuse, we count messages per connection for a short time using a scrambled form of your IP address; those counters aren't kept with your messages and expire within a day.
What it won't do. It can't book visits, promise dates, take payment, or send email or texts, and it only gives price ranges. Molly confirms every price herself.
How long we keep it. The conversation stays in your browser tab and disappears when you close it. Quote requests you send are kept like our other project messages (see below). Email us to have yours deleted.
Cookies and browser storage
The public pages don't set tracking cookies. The owner-only QuickBooks connection sets one short-lived security cookie during sign-in. The estimator saves your answers and photos in your browser's local storage so you don't lose your place; you can clear that at any time in your browser settings. If Turnstile is switched on, Cloudflare may use short-lived technical data to tell people from bots.
How long we keep it
We keep estimator requests, project messages, and photos while we're working together and for a reasonable time afterward in case you have questions about the work. Invoices and payment records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require.
Your choices
Email [email protected] to see what we have about you, correct it, or ask us to delete it. We'll do what we can, keeping only records we're required to keep.
Children
This site is for adults arranging upholstery work. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes
If we change how we handle information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
